Caring Hands

Intergenerational food growing

Caring Hands

Details

This is a project for Young People to grow food in public spaces outside of their school grounds, starting with a pilot between one Primary School and Assisted Living Home in Folkestone, during Oct 2026 – July 2027, kindly supported by funding from FHDC.

A ‘growing with care homes’ project is designed to:

  • offer young people activities outside of their school grounds – while still in a safe and managed green space;
  • provide hands-on, experiential learning about food, ecology, farming, cooking & nutrition;
  • purposefully develop the well-evidenced physical & mental health benefits of time spent in nature;
  • form meaningful connections with other anchor institutions in the community;
  • foster the benefits of intergenerational learning and relationship-building.

We will continually measure the impact of this project on all participants, and aim to bring more schools & care homes into a district-wide programme in 2027.
