A Just Rural Transition

“We have ten years to change the way we produce food and use natural resources, if we are to feed a growing global population by 2030 while avoiding catastrophic degradation of the environment.

A new approach can turn this challenge into an opportunity, placing food, land use and natural ecosystems at the centre of efforts to realise the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on climate change.”

The JRT was launched at the UN Climate Action Summit in 2019. Based in Washington DC, USA, but several of the main actors are British and one the members is reported to be the UK. Can’t see much going on other than the library (‘knowledge hub’) – excellent list of resources including those by International Food Policy Research Institute, another US based org. They seem like they’ve been given funds, but I can’t tell where from.

More evidence that less meat consumption is critical to meet climate breakdown, and needing repurpose land and increase output on same acreage of farmland. Good bank of references for wider systems analysis contributing to UK food security issues
